How Wine Cellar Specialists Constructed the Home Wine Cellar for Long-Term Enjoyment

Building a refrigerated wine cellar requires technical knowledge and expertise. Wine Cellar Specialists have an in-depth understanding of the vital role of proper wine room construction in creating a wine room for long-term storage.

The proper aging of wine can be achieved when the wine cellar is constructed correctly. As master wine cellar builders, Custom Wine Cellars Tampa and Wine Cellar Specialists follow standard procedures in wine room construction.

In every project, there are considerations that should be taken to ensure that the wine cellar has an airtight seal. Unstable conditions will deteriorate the wines quickly.

In this project, and every project that they do, they prepare the wine room for refrigeration to protect the wines from external factors. They insulated the walls and ceiling using a reliable type of insulation, using the green board.

Proper insulation will prevent the premature aging of wines. Wine room insulation will prevent the warm air from entering the cellar and interfering with the cooling efficiency of the wine cooling system.  Wine Cellar Specialists also installed a vapor barrier to help regulate the humidity levels inside the wine cellar. It prevents the warm air from traveling to the cooler environment in your refrigerated wine cellar. Without it or if installed incorrectly, the wine storage conditions will be disrupted.

When done correctly, the ideal wine storage temperature (55 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit) and humidity level (60 to 70 percent) can be achieved. Excessive heat will cause premature aging, which will affect the overall quality of the wines, causing them to have off-flavors and aromas. Moreover, very high humidity levels will trigger mold growth, affecting the structural integrity of the walls and wine racks. Mold can also damage the wine labels and cork.

Very low humidity levels will cause the cork to become dry. Cork that has dried out will decrease in size and cause an unwanted amount of air to enter the wine, causing oxidation. An oxidized wine will taste like burnt marshmallows or wet newspaper.

Wine Cellar Specialists are known for their creativity and expertise in designing luxurious-looking home wine cellars. In this project, the space was limited, but this did not hinder them frobuilding a beautiful wine room.

They combined various racking styles to create an attractive wine display of the client’s collection and utilized high-quality wood for the racking. All of the wine racks installed have a 1.5 toe-kick base and crown molding. These wine racks are made from Mahogany, an exterior-grade material known for its natural beauty and durability.

On the left wall, they included custom wine racks with a descending height to fit the sloping ceiling perfectly. This section was intended for storing 750ml bottles with bottle caps facing out. The wine racks are 13.5 inches deep.

The top section of the back wall consists of 3-deep horizontal wine racks, which store the bottles on their sides with the labels facing out.  The left side of the racking includes a shorter wine rack.

You will find a double-deep X-bin wine rack at the bottom section of the back wall, ideal for bulk storage and better wine organizationThe bottles are stored one on top of another. The different sections allow for grouping the bottles according to variety.

Wine Cellar Specialists added a tabletop above the X-in racking to provide space for decanting and serving the wines. Other racking styles found on the back wall are the high-reveal display row and single-bottle wine racks.

On the right wall, they installed wine racks with 6 inches depth and the same height as the door. They concealed the wine refrigeration unit with a wooden grill and cover at the top section.
